I stumbled upon some old concept art and an animatic whilst delving through the depths of my hard drive. Ogden is a rickety old pilot, with a mind still glued in the 1920s and is struggling to be the hero he was before 21st century life.

Little Megalodon

My tiny little sister turned 11 so I drew a tiny little picture of her celebrating. I built this character using symbols just incase I feel like animating it one rainy day.

Counting Sheep

A cycle of sheep eating I made today. The colours came out a bit muted after exporting.

Another Busy Day

This is a short for a medical company, Edarbi, created by Rumpus Animation which I helped work on whilst I was there. I did some animation and character building. I love the score...when i'm doing something stressful I now hear this in my head.

Ghost Town

Just sorting out my ghost town

i also have been looking for similar ghost towns for inspiration, most of them in america are in deserts or are old abandoned logging towns, but i'm trying to create a mountain mining village.
i found this site that features some interesting ghost towns in Tennessee

Llanberis Mountain Railway

I went to Snowdonia over the Easter weekend with the hope of taking some nice photos of the Llanberis mountain railway to use as reference for my choochoo in 'Bread'. Unfortunately the weather was so foggy and snowy that this was the only picture I managed to take (quite low down) before they stopped the train because of the adverse weather. I had hoped to get some good shots of the train making its way down through the mountains however there was zero visibility higher up and the mountain had become a crazy, icy death slide.

Concept art for 'Bread'

Here is some of my concept art for the music video, 'Bread' that I am currently making. I will probably replace the dead sheep with trees.

Choo Choo Bread

I'm now half way through my internship at Rumpus animation studios, I've been learning billions of useful flash noodles and am really enjoying being part of the team and doing some interesting character animation. In my spare time I have started working on a music video for some friends. The tune is a cute little bluegrass number and is often rattling round my brain, so to come up with a concept and start storyboarding has been really fun. I have just started to create a few little characters, here are some of them on a choo choo...
This isn't the final look of the film, I intend to add some nice texture and lay it out a bit better!

Saturday, 3 March 2012

I have had an amazing week working with the lovely people at Rumpus Animation and learning lots of very useful Flash knowledge. However, my poor Mac has seen better days after having its charger brutally and maliciously assaulted. The culprit has been caught and my hardware lives to see another day.

What am I up to...?

I havent updated in a little while as I have been very busy freelancing and working on my new flash animated website, hooray!
For now I am trying to get my head around the mind boggling task of coding all the lovely animation I have made so it makes some sort of sense in cyberspace, whilst also working on a few small projects on the side. I also will be starting to post updates on a short Flash film I am starting to develop in my spare time.
As well as this I also hope to be posting a link to the Marine Conservation Society's 'Cool Seas Classroom' very soon! This is an interactive website I have been working on whilst freelancing at JuniperBlue for the last half a year. On this project I had the great fun of animating a series of interactive characters and backgrounds to provide a teaching tool for the charity that will be used in schools across the UK!
Until then, here is a little drawing I did in Flash for some cards .

Painting in my lunchbreaks

Here is a cheeky painting i've been doodling in Flash. Its a self portrait. I have a tradition of painting one a year with the goal of reaching 100 (i'll have to make up for the first few years!) At the moment I'm living in part of an old castle in Bristol so I set it here. Its funny to see how my life has changed since last years one, painted in my final year studying at Bristol School of Animation!

Student Film!! 'How to Make a Friend'

Here is the student film I made in my final year at Bristol School of Animation! I made this film with my friend and fellow 2D animator Sam Walsh.
We worked together for a year, animating traditionally in Flash and adding textures and lighting in AfterEffects.
The soundtrack was created by Sam Bordoli, an amazing, London-based composer. You can hear more of Sam's work here:

Please enjoy the film!

How To Make a Friend Exhibition 2011

This is part of the exhibition featuring the promotional materials for our film 'How To Make a Friend'. I built and textured the box to act as a little treasure chest and contain our pitch bible and other small merchandise. I textured the frames by using a heated glaze and beeswax to make it appear like it had been trawled up from the bottom of the ocean and fit the dark nature of our film.
Sam and I also made some swimming patches using the digital embroidery machine.

These are my postcard designs for the exhibition. We got the postcards printed at JamJar in Bedminster and with a box full of 500 were a worried about what we were going to do with all the leftovers. Luckily they have been disappearing pretty quick, especially the postcard featuring the mound of dead children, haha!

Myself and my animation partner Sam Walsh are exhibiting our film 'How to Make a Friend' and the Bristol School of Animation Degree Show 2011, please come along and see some wonderful, funny and imaginative films made by some up and coming animators in Bristol!

Complete Control...

Here some commercial work I did whilst completing work experience at Complete Control, an animation company in Bath.

I drew and animated cycle sequences for the penguins in this childrens game! The idea is to keep the emperor penguin warm by preventing the rest of the group from abandoning him. The game is part of Booktrusts international campaign for literacy and based on the book 'Why is the sky blue?'

You can play the game here:
